I go by the name VNTR. In 2018, I graduated like thousands of others in India—convinced that landing a role at a massive IT conglomerate in Bangalore represented career safety. I was put on an enterprise integration project, working 60-hour weeks to support US clients.
The turning point came when I accidentally saw the project's billing sheet. The consulting firm was billing the US client $150/hour (approx. Rs. 12,000/hour) for my full-time labor, while paying me a monthly salary of exactly Rs. 35,000 (roughly Rs. 145/hour).
Paying a software graduate Rs. 24,120 in-hand while selling their hours at $150/hour to western enterprises is not a career. It is modern labor arbitrage masquerading as prestige.
I resigned in 2021, renting a cramped 1BHK in Indiranagar. I had zero clients, but I refused to grind for stagnant CTCs. I built a proof of work, targeted remote startups, and scaled independent contracts in FinTech and developer-focused copywriting.
